The 80% Price Curve Plan of Stock Market Timing (1940) by Frank Vignola (pseud. M.V. Woods)

Alanpuri Trading, Los Angeles, 2023, Softcover, Reprint, Illustrated, An exact facsimile of the original 1940 by Frank Vignola (M.V. Woods), 15 pp.

Summary: THE 80% PRICE CURVE PLAN is a practical forecasting method for trading the minor price swings of the stock market. It’s purpose is to serve the trader as an indicator of when to buy and when to sell; to time the tops and bottoms of the many rallies and reactions that occur so often during the progress of a major bull or bear market, and to determine when the minor technical position of the stock market is strong or week.

The principle of the 80% Curve is logically based on a simple formula for measuring the extension of the price movement of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The purpose is to determine the ratio between supply and demand of stocks at any given time, it being most likely that after completing a move in one direction, the market will retrace a part if not all of its previous move.

Tests have shown that if the signals indicated by the 80% Curve are followed, minor market movements can be traded profitably when the market is in a trading area.

The method is self-contained and complete, and the trader has the choice of trading either the long or the short side of the market, or both, according to personal preference. The 80% Price Curve Plan can be used in connection with the Dow Theory for trading a large or primary market movements. A few suggestions are offered in the text, and no doubt new ways of synchronizing the 80% Curve with the Dow Theory, and other trading methods, will suggest themselves to the student.

A Retrospective Study of the Forecasting Value of Dow's Theory as Applied to the Daily Movements of the Dow-Jones Industrial and Railroad Stock Averages. An extremely scarce 1934 title from Robert Rhea. Includes numerous charts and tables. 195 pp.

The Story of the Averages (1934) by Robert Rhea

A Retrospective Study of the Forecasting Value of Dow’s Theory as Applied to the Daily Movements of the Dow-Jones Industrial and Railroad Stock Averages.

Alanpuri Trading, Los Angeles, 2013, Softcover, Reprint, Exact facsimile of the first edition that was originally published in 1934 Robert Rhea, numerous charts and tables, 195 pp.,

Contents: (from the Introduction) Dow’s Theory Is Not Infallible: Charles H. Dow never intended his theory of price movements to be construed as being a method whereby the royal road to riches could be found. While the principles laid down by him and developed by William Peter Hamilton may assist us in understanding something of security price trends, it would nevertheless be a fallacy to undertake any discussion of the subject without making the point very clear that no dependable method beating the market has yet been discovered. Intelligent observation and study of the ever-recurring formations in the averages which Dow and Hamilton noted can, however, prove invaluable to both investors and speculators. It is hoped that the effort of those who read these pages may be rewarded by finding therein something useful and profitable. — end. 195 pp.

Trading Tactics, In Keeping with Dow’s Intermediate and Long-Term Trends (1952) by George E. Schaefer

Alanpuri Trading, Los Angeles, 2013, Softcover, Reprint, Exact facsimile of the original 1952 first edition, originally self-published in 1952 by E. George Schaefer as a marketing piece to his new customers that were 4-week trial subscribers to his “Dow Theory Trader” letter, 65 pp.,

Contents: description from Schaefer’s Foreword, “The road to profits in the stock market is not difficult to follow when you have a dependable guide – a guide to help you employ correct trading tactics at the right time for greater profits. This “Trading Tactics” booklet is going to introduce you to the most reliable guide in the stock investment business. The Dow Theory. A better Dow theory – one that has been improved through technical research.

You will read how this improved Dow Theory has been used to capture great profits in this market. For over fifty years, the Dow Theory has served as a dependable guide to investors. It has shown countless numbers when to buy near the bottom – when to hold – and when to sell out near the top. This booklet discusses Dow theory procedure – shows how great profits were built up in two model accounts – and the reasons behind the investment procedure followed to accomplish these profits. Four “Dow Theory Trader” letters, in which we told our readers to “buy” just before large advances occurred, are given in this booklet in their entirety. For example, the June 18, 1949 issue (written four days after the 161.60 low), the July 15, 1950, issue (written two days after the Korean War reaction made it’s low), the December 9, 1950, letter (written at a time when stocks were being sold in response to the Chinese Communist war), and our June 29, 1951, letter, are all enclosed, and serve to show how this new technical research and the Dow theory were bullish, and highly profitable to investors in all of those instances.

Great advances in the market followed in each of these cases. A sample of our two model accounts, showing profits garnered by these methods, is also enclosed. A number of technical supplements to our regular weekly letter have also been included in this booklet. These were selected from past weekly bulletins because the writer felt that they were valuable to beginners who want to learn how technical factors are correlated with the Dow theory. They show how we have improved timing under the Dow theory by new methods. Some of these are the 200-Day Investment Line, Dow’s 50% Concept, Odd-Lot Index, Three-Phase Studies, Short Interest-Volume Ratio, and our Consensus Opinion Chart.

This “Trading Tactics” booklet was written primarily to show our many new readers who the Dow theory is applied for profit. Thousands of investors are using the method outlined – they have been tested, and have been proven of great value. The writer sincerely hopes that you, as a 4-week trial subscriber, will benefit from the principles, procedure, and trading tactics discussed. – signed, E. George Schaefer” — end. 65 pp.
